About Me
Freelance Author and Illustrator
I am a freelance author and illustrator specialising in scientific illustration. I explain complex things with images and texts that are easy to understand. Whether biology, climate, earth history, or social and sensitive topics — I find a way to get to the visual point.
I completed both my Bachelor’s and Master’s in Scientific Illustration at HAW Hamburg with top marks. And driven by my thirst for knowledge, I am now an eager biology student at the University of Hamburg. This means I now know both sides: the technical language of research and the didactic and narrative techniques of science communication for diverse audiences.
In addition to illustration and text, I develop workshops and educational formats, for example for museums, schools, and educational events.
Three of my own non-fiction books have also been published by Haupt Verlag: Amazonia, Africa!, and Mediterranean. For these I researched intensively and travelled to gather ideas, clarify questions, and form my own impressions on location. I live with my family on the outskirts of Hamburg.

Illustration Meets Code
What happens when an illustrator and a programmer team up? Projects like this website. Katharina takes care of image and concept, Tobias (BeyondSimulations) handles code and data. Together we create data visualisations, interactive exhibits, and illustrated web projects. Curious? We'd love to hear from you.
